Mid-Western Region Housing Strategy
NSW Planning Institute of Australia President's Award 2025 Gyde's strategic planning and data analytics teams prepared the Mid-Western Region Housing Strategy which provides a 20-year visionary strategic plan for the future supply and type of housing within the Mid-Western Regional local government area (LGA). The Mid-Western LGA is located within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), the first of its kind in Australia. Gyde's population and housing demand analysis anticipated that the REZ would bring an estimated peak population increase of over 30%, meaning that the Mid-Western LGA would need to deliver up to 1,500 dwellings within the next two years alone to accommodate the workers and families of the REZ. At the centre of the Housing Strategy is a focus on the delivery of a diverse mix of dwelling types and lot sizes, including some smaller options, to provide greater housing choice, affordability and flexibility to suit the varied needs of the Mid-Western community. The Mid-Western Region Housing Strategy prioritises the design and delivery of high-quality housing outcomes to create liveable and sustainable homes that will address significant housing demand while preserving the Mid-Western LGA’s unique character, rich heritage and great places.
