EPBC Reforms Research and Recommendations – Accelerating Renewable Energy Development
Gyde collaborated with Kirstie Allen Advisory for the Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation to review the significant EPBC reforms, in the context of meeting Australia's dual challenges of protecting biodiversity and streamlining the delivery of renewable energy projects. We undertook case studies that tested the application of bioregional planning reforms in two regions with emerging renewable energy developments in NSW and Queensland. We prepared an initial summary report - Accelerating renewable energy development while delivering environmental net gain’, which found that bioregional planning presents a major opportunity and is an important new tool to provide greater clarity for developers and host communities, speed up approvals and secure clear outcomes for the environment. The summary report was followed by a detailed research report, which provided a series of recommendations to ensure appropriate allocation of budget and implementation processes, to realise the potential of the bioregional planning reforms.
