About the Role
Opportunities are available for highly motivated students to join our 2027 Student Program as Assistant Planners in our Sydney, Newcastle or Canberra offices. This role provides practical planning experience while you complete your studies and offers an excellent pathway into a graduate position.
As an Assistant Planner, you will:
- Interpret planning legislation, development controls and strategic planning policies
- Research planning issues and analyse data to support strategic planning projects
- Contribute to urban design studies and master plans
- Assess development opportunities and planning constraints
- Assist with environmental planning assessments
- Prepare planning reports, planning proposals and development applications
- Liaise with clients, councils, government agencies and consultants
- Assist with project management, report preparation and document lodgement
- Prepare fee proposals and support project delivery
A week at Gyde might include…
- Attending a client meeting with a senior planner
- Researching planning controls for a new project
- Visiting a development site
- Helping prepare a fee proposal or development application
- Joining one of our technical training sessions
- Catching up with your buddy over coffee
About You
- Currently studying Town Planning or a related discipline
- Achieving consistently strong academic results
- Enthusiastic, reliable and keen to learn
- An excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills
- Interested in contemporary planning and urban development
- Organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities
- Detail-oriented with a professional attitude
- A collaborative team player who also shows initiative
